"Incredibly gutsy
stuff with a
big sound "
Brace yourselves, m´hearties, to join in with the songs y´all know and love including Haul Boys, Bound for South Australia, Blow the Man Down, Drunken Sailor and many more, and enjoy a barrel-load of stirring original tunes along the way.
Rocking five piece shantyfolk band The Salts sail into Poppleton on 11 January with a rousing night mixing classics with original sea-faring songs.
The Salts are a co-operative of seasoned musicians, creating what is fast becoming one of the most exciting and energetic folk concepts of recent times. Fronted by Lee Collinson, twice BBC Young Folk finalist, and back in the day, replacement to Martin Carthy in the Keith Hancock Band (with whom he toured the world).
“Doing for shanties what the Pogues did for Irish Folk. Indeed 10,000 Miles and Bound for South Australia were at one time Pogued. However, The Salts version of “London Town” was quite unlike that of Bellowhead’s. A fantastic energy was show by The Salts and a great passion for their music.”
